| Why is your CSA more expensive then other CSA's? |
|
Thank you for asking. There are many differences between the shares and as I say, no two farms are created equal. Our property is near Torrey Pines so is very dear financially compared to inland and our utilities are the same as for anyone in the city (it costs us the same to grow crops as it does for someone in La Jolla, say, to take a shower and we sometimes need thousands of gallons per day). The value of our CSA share is that we include a bouquet of our chemical free heirloom flowers and a nice selection of sasonal fruit and the added luxury of delivering directly to your home or office. We also offer additional items on our website for your convenience of top quality tested home products. So if we took out the flowers, the fruit and the delivery, the items and costs are quite close. We produce the majority of the produce and flowers here on under two acres. We also procure either certified organic or local food items. We have an exemplary family farm and are not open to the public. Shareholders are invited and encouraged to make a time and come visit. One of the other farms is about 200 acres and are able to wholesale. The other has received economic support from a local Indian casino tribe. We all are committed and staking all we have on keeping our priceless farms. Frankly, we're a dying breed. Young people find it very hard to finance these operations unfortunately, otherwise there would probably be many more than three. I hope this answers your questions and sincerely desire you will be happy with the farm you choose.
