15. What does becoming a CSA subscriber have to do with food security? 1. What can I expect in my delivery each week? Usually included is a bouquet of flowers, lettuce, salad mix, a cooking green, fresh herbs, a type of onion (chives, leeks, cooking onion), a type of ‘starch’ (potatoes, yams, corn, squash). The remainder might include broccoli, carrots, beets, turnips, tomatoes, beans, arugula, etc. See this week's selection under Newsletter.
2. I am a new customer. I just siged up for the 4-week trial. How will future billings work? Unless we hear otherwise will automatically place you on our billing cycle. We invoice around the first week of the month and charge credit cards about the second week of the month.
3. Do you deliver to my neighborhood? Please check our list of current delivery areas for a list of zip codes and communities. If your neighborhood is not listed please contact us and you may arrange to pick up your bag here at the farm.
4. What form of payment do you accept? We accept MasterCard, Visa, or Discover to begin service. Future billings may be paid with a check or credit card. We ask check be mailed according to due date to avoid a late charge.
Pre-payment allows us to plan and plant a little more efficiently.
5. Do I have to be home when the delivery arrives?
No, the driver will leave the bag at your front door. If you have special instructions for where to place the bag, please indicate when signing up in the comments box.
6. If I’m not home for the delivery how does my delivery stay fresh? Many of our shareholders are not home during the day. We pick and pack everything fresh and deliver as soon as we can. Tell us in the comments section when you sign-up where is the best place for your delivery if you are concerned about sun or heat. We recommend a large cooler to avoid damage in the hot months.
7. May I choose my own items? Yes, place your order under the Green Store and Choose Your Own. If a CSA shareholder, the items will be added without an additional delivery charge. You may also email orders if you do not see what you'd like from the 'Store'. We do not have a Farm Stand on the farm.
8. Why are your eggs so expensive? Because we have a very small flock and do not 'force' our hens to lay. They are allowed to live out their years. We have one rooster 14 years old! In essence, we run a retirement home and the sell of eggs helps support them.
9. What if I need to skip a delivery or two?
We ask you arrange for you to arrange to have someone pick up your bag. Please do not ask us to deliver to a different address. It only adds to our overhead costs. You may also donate your bag.
10. May I come visit?
Visits may be scheduled for CSA shareholders. Thursdays or Fridays are best for us.
11. Do you charge a delivery fee? CSA subscribers have the delivery charges included in the weekly bag. Choose Your Own customers pay the delivery fee when 'checking out'.
12. What is the better value - a weekly CSA subscriber or Choose Your Own? CSA subscribers receive a substantial discount. Often the dollar value of the bag exceeds the billing. If Mother Earth is generous, so are we. Choose Your Own pays posted prices based on current market value.
13. I am a weekly subscriber and want to add items from The Green Store. Do I have to pay an additional delivery fee? No. Just be sure to check CSA customer under delivery choices when you check out and we will add items to your bag.
14. Do you deliver prepared meals?
Well, not quite but close to it. There are many fresh and grocery items in The Green Store that make possible quick, easy and nutritious meals.
15. What does becoming a CSA subscriber have to do with food security? The average supermarket food item travels approximately 1400 petroleum miles to get there. If there is disruption of distribution due to natural or terrorist interference, most households have on hand food for 3 days. Joining a local CSA means we will provide our products to you as our priority.
